Trogir: a UNESCO old town for an easy day trip

Trogir is a compact historic town on the coast, 35 to 45 minutes by car from Žnjan, with an old town core that has been under UNESCO protection since 1997. Set on a small island connected by bridges to the mainland and to Čiovo, Trogir has that Mediterranean layout that needs no map: everything is within a few minutes' walk, and it's easy to explore without a set itinerary.

A walk through the stone streets leads to the Cathedral of St. Lawrence with its famous portal by Master Radovan, the main square and loggia, and a series of palaces and churches that reflect the town's rich past, shaped by Greek, Roman, and Venetian influence. It's worth stopping at the town gate and at Kamerlengo Fortress on the edge of the old core, which offers views over the sea and nearby islands.

Along the river and the waterfront promenade you'll find cafés and restaurants where a break feels like a natural part of the visit, not an interruption. Afternoons often turn into a long coffee by the water, and in the evening the town takes on a quieter rhythm once the daytime crowds thin out.
